Sustainable living and healing in Nature

The Mountain

Reevis Mountain School of Self-Reliance is a wilderness homestead, spiritual retreat, and school for skills and attitudes that enhance self-reliance. Reevis provides a place of inspiration, peace, and reverence for nature, where, in a magical remote wilderness setting, students and interns can learn natural healing and self-reliance skills, experience growing their own food, develop spiritual awareness, enjoy a spirit of community, and live healthfully.

Reevis is staffed by Peter Bigfoot, who founded RMS in 1979, and Patricia Sanders, his wife. Bigfoot is best known for his 1975 solo trek across the Sonoran Desert, when he trekked 85 miles in 15 days and brought no food or water, foraging for his needs. He is a respected natural healer and Southwestern herbologist. Patricia, RMS's office manager, is also a copy editor and writer.

We teach and promote self-reliance and nature awareness through (1) offering classes and lectures on wilderness survival, natural healing, meditation, and homestead living skills, (2) providing an example of a working off-the-grid homestead, (3) growing healthy organic food for ourselves and for market, (4) producing and selling herbal remedies formulated by Peter Bigfoot, (5) offering work-exchange internships, and (6) publishing books about herbology and natural healing. RMS is a place of inspiration and peace, providing a space to develop spiritual awareness and to foster personal health, wisdom, and joy.

The greatest miracle is in how well we live each day. I have chosen "live what you love" as the verbal expression of what Reevis Mountain School is all about. We have touched thousands of lives by demonstrating the value of daring to live your dream, of gently and steadily cultivating that which brings us the most joy. - Peter Bigfoot, founder

Located in the eastern Superstition Mountains of Arizona, 80 miles east of Phoenix, our land is nestled in a narrow valley, surrounded by several prominent peaks. A perennial creek fed by springs keeps the native sycamore and walnut trees lush and provides us with water.

Reevis Mountain School We offer classes in self-reliance skills while providing an environment for people to connect with themselves, with others, with the earth, with nature, and with Source. The farm is a place of inspiration and peace, providing a space to awaken to our own true divinity and to foster personal health, wisdom, wellness, and responsibility.

Country Store We offer herbal tinctures and dried herbs that are sustainably wildcrafted or organically grown and harvested. We practice herbology as an honorable and self-empowering approach to health care and personal responsibility. You may order products online through our store, which accepts checks, credit cards, and Paypal, print an order form and mail it to us, or simply write or email to order.

The Organic Vegetable Garden

Organic Farm As keepers of the land, we care for crops and livestock to provide a wholesome diet and a lifestyle that is increasingly unavailable and sadly forgotten in this fast-paced, high-tech world. We market fruit, vegetables, and eggs throughout the spring, summer, and fall, beginning with the apricot harvest in early June. Deliveries are made to Roosevelt, Globe, Mesa, Tempe, Phoenix, and Scottsdale. Please email us to receive notices of delivery dates. Thursdays during the season, our produce is available at Simply Sarah, the women's clothing boutique on Broad Street in Globe. Please email us for information about our holiday turkeys and Muscovy ducks.
